The Gathering

On the week beginning 9th June we are hosting a Gathering for the Glascott clan, former owners of Fruit Hill House. Their family name is closely connected to the names Gifford and Symes and many other well-known Wexford families whose ancestors arrived here with Cromwell. Many descendants are scattered throughout the world, and have been looking into their genealogy. This year all the research will be put together for an exhibition in New Ross library for viewing all week, and thereafter stored in the library archive. There will be a special tour of the Dunbrody famine ship, acknowledging the role played by the Glascott/Gifford/Symes family in shipping and trade. Historian, author and stitcher, Eithne Scallan, will give a talk on the Ros Tapestry which, like all the events, will be open to all who have an interest in Wexford history. The week will start with an ecumenical service in Whitechurch, followed by a picnic at Fruit Hill on Sunday 9th June. All are welcome.
