About Us

Pastoral view from the house

An example of the Wexford countryside

My name is Susan Devane, and I have been living here in Co Wexford for 17 busy years with my husband, Richard and our gang of children. It took us a few years to restore the property after years of neglect, but we knew it was somewhere special from the start. We have enjoyed welcoming visitors to share the magic for the past 10 years, and hope you will decide to book a holiday with us.

Please feel free to give me a ring if there is anything you need to know about staying at Fruit Hill. Whatever requirements you may have we will try to accommodate you, and will be happy to refer you to other self-catering cottages in the area if we don’t have something available to suit your needs.

The restoration of Fruit Hill House, grounds and cottages has been a labour of love since 1995 with all the family involved in the project. Visitors have enjoyed the secluded charm of a heritage property set apart from the busy world. Hidden Ireland and Sawday’s have approved the cottages and recommend them as an excellent base for discovering the history, landscape and culture of this unique region. For people in search of somewhere special with a true sense of place, Fruit Hill is ideal as a base for exploring Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and the beauty and majesty of the Hook Penninsula with its sandy coves, wild and rocky seascapes, ancient monasteries and Europe’s oldest lighthouse.

There is a wide range of activities on offer locally, so there’s no need to spend all day in a car – less than an hour’s drive in any direction will take you to a new adventure, and then back to all the comforts of home. It isn’t a holiday if you don’t get a good night’s sleep, so all our beds are of the highest quality, and of course there is nothing more soothing than gazing into a real fire at the end of a busy day.

People come here at all times of the year, sometimes for a week or two, and apart from the high season, sometimes just for a weekend ( our winter rates are very attractive ). You will find that the welcome is genuine, and we are on hand in the event of any difficulties.
Regular guests tell us that they always return home refreshed and revitalised after a stay at Fruit Hill – you can read some of the comments from our visitors’ book, and on my blog you will find some lovely photos taken by visitors.

The Discover Ireland website is very useful for planning things to do, and if you are intending to visit some of the regions heritage sites you may find a Heritage Card offers good value for money.

Please email me at fruithill [at] gmail [dot]com and I’ll get back to you quickly.
